July 12 2000: The sun rose slowly over the luminous waves. Lolani woke her eyes meeting his. “Morning” He smiled “Good Morning” He kissed her cheek. “Oh I have to get to work!” He jumped up buttoned his shirt. She smiled “Ok ill see you later” Damian ran off towards the bank.
“ALOHA! kea'ekahi” shouts his husky boss. He embraces him tightly. Damian smiles “Aloha.” Damian hops behind the counter and begins to day dream of Lolani. Until his boss loudly interrupts “How was your first night kea’ekahi?” Damian shakes his head “Surprisingly good!” The husky man smiles “That’s great my silly daughter has seemed to run off again last night she tends to do that” He laughs and grabs the mail. Damian’s eyes open real wide he coughs. “Really?” he starts to nervously doodle on a sticky note. His boss shakes his head “Yea but its fine she’s a young woman you know? Besides she always comes back” He smiles pats Damian on the shoulder and walks into his office.
It was a slow day but Damian didn’t notice as he spun in his chair day dreaming. 12:30. The chimes hanging above the door start to sound as she walks in. Damian shakes his head “Lolani!” She laughs “Yea?” He nervously coughs “oh um hai” She giggles “Hai.” Her father comes out of his office “Aloha where’d you run off to last night?” She glances as Damian “Oh just some late night surfing.” She hands him his lunch bag. He looks at Damian “Hey Kea’ekahi sense it’s a slow day why don’t you take Lola out to lunch before she goes to work.” Lolani’s eyes widen “Father!” Damian laughs “No it’s alright I’d be delighted” He jumped over the counter and grabbed her by the arm “But….” He laughed “Oh Be quiet” as he pulled her through the door. “Well sense I’m stuck with you come with me” She laughs and pulls a helmet out of her purse. Damian stares at her blankly “You have a bike?” 0.o. She rolls her eyes “Yes I have a bike unless your to scared we could always walk.” He grabs the helmet and gets on. She drives down a small road till they reach a small smoothie shop. A muscular guy with lip piercing greets them “Hey birdie” He laughs waving at Lolani. Damian looks puzzled “Birdie?” She laughs “My name Lolani means Bird of Heaven in Hawaiian.” He pulls out a chair for her “Here ya go” she giggles “What a gentleman” Damian smiles “I can be.” She turns towards the counter “Hey Devon can I have to Raspberries?” The muscular kid goes to the back “Sure thing birdie.”
Damian asks “So were do you work?” Devon comes out with two large smoothies. She takes a sip “I’m a tattoo artist at this small place called Kinikia Ice” He laughs “Wow really I never would have expected that one.” She looks at him funny “Why?” He opens his mouth to speak then pauses “You know what I’m not sure” Laughing “Ok well come on.” She grabs his arm and they ride through the town. He sees a Store with a big sign above Kinikia Ice. She stops the bike right in front of the door and walks in. Damian stares at the sign curiously. She turns around “You coming?” Shakes his head “Huh oh yea.” They walk in to black walls with colorful tattoo designs all over them. A girl kind of like Damian dark hair and light skin is giving a girl a nose piercing. She has tattoos all down her arm and snake bites. She looks over at the two “Hey Lola who’s he early costumer?” Lolani laughs “I don’t think so this is Damian.” She looks at him and laughs “So you Damian huh? I’m Aleka.” The girl sitting down shouts “Owwww.” Aleka laughs “See all done come to the register.” Lolani sways her head “Over here.” She pulls him into a small office with papers and drawings all over the walls and floors. He laughs “is this your office?” She nods. He picks up a piece of paper it has a tribal bird and underneath the words bird of heaven. He points at the paper “Is this like the tattoo your gunna get?” She laughs “Oh no that’s what I use to scare off guys I tell them if they truly love me they’ll get this tattoo.” He laughs “Wow ok.” Aleka walks in “Hey Damian If you want I can do some work on you” Laughing. He looks down at the paper “You know what you can.” He grabs her by the arm and sits on the stool. Aleka looks confused “Whaa…I was just…” He cuts her off “I want this one.”
He hands her the piece of paper. Lolani looks at him “What are you doing?” He looks at her “You’ll see.” Aleka puzzled “Umm ok”
She gets out her tools “This should be simple. Were do you want it?”
He points to his shoulder. The phone rings and Lolani runs to answer it. A half an hour later she’s finished. He pays Aleka goes into Lani’s office. She looks at him “Are you crazy?” he laughs hands her a small piece of paper and runs out the door. She opens it and the words say “I Love You”
